I like to know who is visiting our websites as not only does this help with determining how successful our promotional strategies are, but it also means we can then tailor our products and services to our visitors.
There are a number of ways you can find out more about your visitors. For example, your website host may provide you with a log report recording your site’s activity, or you could add a tracking service to your site.
Extreme Tracking (http://www.extreme-dm.com) offer a free tracking service. All you have to do is register with the site and then follow the online instructions. They will give you some HTML code to paste into your pages and this will record your site’s activity.
If your provider already supplies you with log files then you’ll need to be able to interpret the data by subscribing to a web traffic analysis service, for example Analog: http://www.analog.cx.
